The Blackbird Residency offers artists the opportunity to explore a deeper connection with their creative practice, while also engaging with local communities to explore the individual and collective benefits of the arts.
Our Artist-In-Residency programs aim to inspire artists by offering a unique space surrounded by a breathtaking landscape. This special environment is intended to encourage new directions in their creative practices and bring about work that inspires them throughout their careers. It is our intention to support our residents in a way that allows them to clear mental space and further build their vision of themselves as an artist. Additionally, it is our hope that by involving artist in our community programming it will strengthen their role as advocates for the positive impacts of art on society.
Our community-focused activities aim to educate new audiences about the benefits of art initiatives to ultimately drive support for programming. Research has shown that art programs offer significant societal impacts in the forms of boosting mental health, social connections, and better health outcomes patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease and dementia – each of which have the potential to improve the lives of all Montanans.
