Throughout the year The Blackbird Residency will host events that engage the local community to highlight the individual and communal benefits of the arts with the following programming:
Open Studio
Halfway through each artist’s residency, we collaborate with a local organization to host an exclusive, invite-only studio visit. This event will allow the partner organization’s constituents to meet the artist, learn about their practice, and see their current work. This initiative is designed to engage audiences who might not typically interact with the art space. Our hope is that this experience will foster a new connection to art among the invitees and inspire them to learn more about the arts in our community.
Artful Conversation Series
Near the conclusion of the residency, we will host a gathering for the general public where the resident artist will discuss their artistic journey with a representative from the local art community. This conversation will cover the evolution of their passion, from its earliest realization to the moment they committed to it as their life’s path. Additional topics may include insights into the life of an artist that they wish the public understood, their perspective on the current state of art in our community, and the potential of art to foster deeper human connection.
Additional Programming
Throughout the year The Residency intends to work with community groups to offer additional programming to further engage audiences in conversations about the power of art through unique opportunities. More information coming soon.
